Moreover, the IMA too has assured all kinds of assistance to the protesting medical students for an all out battle against reservation. To lend support to the medicos, state IMA president Dr TN Singh was also present in the meeting.

A surprise package for the striking medicos came from president of Kanpur Nursing Homes Association Dr Awadh Dubey, who declared that all nursing homes and houses of doctors were open for medicos to stay. Earlier, some professors at the medical college said that the medicos were being forcibly evicted from the college hostels in an effort to stifle the protest.

It may be noted that for the last three days, the college administration has been evicting all undergraduate students from hostels on the pretext of summer vacations. Though the students are following the administration’s orders obediently, agony can be seen etched deep on the faces of many students before they leave their striking counterparts here in the city.

Notably, on Saturday, the city wing of the IMA had called a day’s strike in favour of the striking medicos across the country and all IMA members observed strike by closing their clinics and hospitals here in the city.

After the meeting, members of the IMA, along with a group of representatives of striking medicos, took out a procession from the IMA office to the DM’s office and handed over a memorandum to the district administration officials.

Earlier, Dr RN Chaurasia, senior member of IMA said, Arjun Singh, who has never come to the Parliament after winning an election as every time he makes a back door entry, is trying to divide people and advocating more seats in medical colleges through backdoors (read reservation).”

Patients’ death: Three patients died heretoday following strike by medicos. Malkiat Singh (15), a student of class 8, who was admitted at the UHM Hospital with severe burns, succumbed today. Similarly, Usha Devi of Bidhnoo, who was admitted at LLR hospital after consuming poison, died today in the hospital and one Shalu of Maharajpur admitted at UHM Hospital died before he could be transferred to the LLR Hospital for advance treatment on Saturday.  He consumed some poisonous substance, yesterday.
