I don't think too many news channels lead to trivialisation of news. What is more responsible for this, is the manner in which news is presented, whatever be the amount of competition for TRPs.

News must be reported, and not dissected or blown out of proportion. The competition between a large number of news channels must only enhance the quality of news delivered.

But unfortunately, today, news channels focus on masala and hype and hysteria to attract viewers. And partly to blame is also the viewer ship, which does not raise its voice against this misuse of the media, rather sits at home and enjoys being made to waste time.
