Tajikistan's border guard officials charged neighboring Uzbekistan with sheltering anti-government forces responsible for a series of terrorist attacks, in a statement published by the border guard press service.
"Tajikistan's law enforcement several times called for extradition of those charged with organising guerrilla groups and preparing terrorist attacks on our territory, but Uzbek authorities did nothing in this regard," the statement published late on Monday said.
Anti-government guerrillas also occasionally crossed into Uzbekistan "and kept communicating with former Tajik army colonel Mahmud Khudoiberdiyev, who enjoys Uzbek security's protection," Tajik border guards said.
In November 1998 Khudoiberdiyev, with a group of some 1,000 guerrillas, attacked Tajikistan's Sogd region and managed to escape after his troops were defeated by government forces.
