Take pre-boards easy, schools told

Board exams might be crucial, but it is the pre-boards that Class X students have uppermost in their minds. This is because most schools treat the pre-boards as the 'real Board exams' even holding them repeatedly.

Neha Sugandh (name changed) goes to a leading Delhi school and has done badly in the pre-board exam. “I have been told I will not get my admit card if I don’t improve,” she says. Her predicament is not an isolated case.

But while schools deny putting pressure on students, the problem is bad enough for the CBSE to take note. “We have issued a circular asking the schools not to conduct repeated pre-board exams,” said CBSE director (academic) G Balasubramanian.

Most schools say they try to keep the hype down, but pressure builds up. “Students should not be pushed beyond a point,” said Modern School (Barakhamba) principal Lata Vaidyanathan.

Laxman Public School principal Usha Ram feels pre-boards are crucial but can not be used to prevent a student from appearing in the Board examinations.
