The incident has angered the workers, who alleged that the management hurriedly removed the bodies from the accident site. While the police confirmed only two deaths, they said that the bodies could not be traced. The police were searching for the bodies in different city hospitals. The tannery owners were also not available for comments.

Following the accident, a large number of workers lay siege to the tannery premises, demanding action against its owners and adequate financial aid to the kin of the deceased. According to reports, the tannery owner Shahab Zafar has leased out the unit to two other leather exporters Dr Anwar and Munna, a close relative of SP MLA Haji Mushtaq Solanki, but retained his status as one of the partners.
