Tapash Baisya was just 19 when he made his Test debut in 2002 during the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo. While his bowling was unimpressive in that outing, he showed his determination with a debut half century batting at number 9.
He came of age during the summer 2003 tour of Australia. While he did not get a large number of wickets, his nagging length and accuracy was instrumental in Bangladesh returning from the tour with heads held high.
Incidentally, it was in Australia that he learned much of his skills having spent a stint at the Australian Cricket Academy in 2001.
Not a very tall bowler, his main strength is his accuracy and economy rate rather than raw pace.
He uses the new ball well and if he works on his speed, he is sure to cement his place as a main strike bowler for Bangladesh.
