Reddy, who represents Banswada constituency in Nizamabad district, met the officiating speaker Nadendla Manohar and handed over his resignation. He also dispatched a similar letter to N Chandrababu Naidu, stating that he was ending his 27-year long association with the TDP as the party had not taken a stand on Telangana issue.

Reddy, who was a minister in Chandrababu Naidu cabinet, said he did not want to be counted as 'a traitor of Telangana' by people of the region. "TDP promised a separate state during the last elections but has gone back on the word," Reddy said.

He is expected to formally join the TRS, the Telangana-centric sub-regional party in a few days.
