He was delivering the valedictory address of the 41st orientation course at the UGC-Academic Staff College in Banaras Hindu University on Tuesday.

Prof Singh said mere sermons would not serve the purpose. Rather, teachers should try to acquire the latest knowledge and inculcate the same in their students.

He said teachers were the architects of any country and, therefore, they should do something outstanding, while discharging their duties.

He said teachers themselves were responsible for their image and, therefore, they should always try to maintain their dignity. They should set an example for their students, he added.

Earlier, Prof Singh released the proceedings of the orientation course and awarded certificates to the participants.

Emeritus professor at Institute of Agricultural Sciences in BHU Prof RM Singh presided over the function, while director of UGC Academic Staff College Prof Kumar Pankaj delivered the welcome address.

Course coordinator Dr SK Tiwari conducted the programme and said issues related to humanities, agriculture, science and technology and medicines were discussed during the orientation course. MK Chaudhary proposed the vote of thanks.

As many as 44 teachers from various streams, including science and technology, literature, social sciences, medical sciences etc, from across 12 states participated in the orientation course in which 94 sessions were held.
