Nepali police fired tear gas on Thursday at protesters demonstrating against controversial municipal elections described by critics as a sham, witnesses said.
Dozens of protestors clashed with riot police and hurled bricks or set fire to tyres in Kathmandu while chanting, "We don't want a murderer government. You can't kill people!"
They were protesting against local government polls ordered by the king—who seized power last year—and the killing by soldiers of another protester during Wednesday's polling, which saw a low turnout.
