A FOUR-DAY national symposium “Techno-Orientation-2006” commenced at Oriental Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) on
Monday. More than 3000 students from 800 technical institutes are participating in this event. Oriental Group of Institutes Chairman K L Thakral inaugurated the symposium. Chairman OIST & TCT Praveen Thakral; Director, OIST, Dr GP Basal; Principal, OIST Brig (Retd) Iqbal Siddiqui, other eminent dignitaries, HODs, faculty members and a large number of students were present on this occasion.
In his address, K L Thakral said that the students are the future of the nation and pillars of the society, as the progress of the country lies on their shoulders. He further said that while learning and getting educated, students should not forget their values. They should think about the nation first and then about themselves.
Earlier, Brig Siddiqui presented a complete report of the institute and its achievements. He gave detailed information about technorientation and the participants. A colourful cultural programme was the main attraction of the inaugural programme.
The dances presented by the students were highly appreciated by the audience. A short presentation of OIST brought back the memories of past technorientation programmes.
Day one witnessed technical papers and poster presentation contests in different streams of engineering, code assembling contest and preliminary rounds of robotics and quiz competitions. The 4-day programme comprises 13 events to be adjudged by corporate personnel from TCS, Cognizant and academicians.
