Ten injured in police lathicharge in UP

Ten people were injured as police resorted to lathicharge to control a mob following a scuffle that took a communal turn.

Ten people were injured as police resorted to lathicharge to control a mob indulging in heavy brickbatting following a minor scuffle which took a communal turn in Bhadohi on Friday.

Additional Superintendent of police, Daddan Pal said that two carpet manufacturers passing through the Nai Basti in Chauri police station area were beaten up after their hand cart accidentally hit members of another community.

Soon members of both the communities gathered and indulged in heavy brickbatting causing minor injuries to eight of them, police said adding that a police team which rushed there had to resort to lathicharge to control the mob in which another two were injured.

All the injured have been hospitalised, Pal said.

A heavy contingent of the police and Provincial Armed Constabulary have been deployed in the area to keep a vigil, he said adding that the situation was now under control.
