As per reports, in the first attack, around 5.30am three militants in carrying AK-47 rifles fired indiscriminately at a Balero carrying natives of Gurdaspur in Punjab. The militants killed one of the passengers and injured three others and later fled away with the SUV and the driver.

The fate of the driver is yet unknown as the vehicle was found near the site of the second attack outside an artillery unit at Janglote, where the militants engaged in a gun fight with the security forces.

In the ensuing encounter, Lance Naik V Anthony, who was guarding the rear gate of 111 Rocket regiment, was killed while another jawan was injured.

Two terrorists were also killed in the encounter while efforts were on to find the third, who had taken shelter in an under construction building.

It was the timely alertness by the state police that averted more tragedy as the police sounded red alert in the area after the passengers were attacked. Due to this the militants could not barge into the Army unit and prevented maximum casualties.

This has been another major security lapse as this is second attack by the militants in the same areas in the last six months.
