The land of lights and delights
A trip to Hong Kong Disneyland is the stuff most dream holidays are made of.india Updated: Mar 09, 2011 02:30 IST
Tinker Bell sprinkled her magical mist over Sleeping Beauty’s castle at dusk to turn it into a glistening kaleidoscope of colours. A laser show of lights and fireworks looked as if this wasn’t happening in Hong Kong Disneyland but in a fairy tale itself. Tinker Bell, the pixie fairy from the
story, is heading the fifth anniversary celebrations of Hong Kong Disneyland the whole of this year.
The theme of the year’s festivities, ‘Celebrations in the Air’, includes fireworks at night, illumination of the castle by Tinker Bell’s magic wand along with a laser show at dusk, and a Flights of Fantasy parade in the afternoon. The parade features the flappy-eared elephant Dumbo, followed by Mickey Mouse and his team of friends, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Pluto and Goofy. The life-size characters are a treat to watch, interact and get clicked with.
Ride and attractions
Hong Kong Disneyland gives a full value-for-money experience with its four Disney zones - Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Adventureland and Main Street USA. Two days are perfect to explore the entire expanse. The top five rides are the Space Mountain (a thrilling roller coaster ride with special effects), Mickey's PhilharMagic (the 4D show), Jungle River Cruise (encounter beasts and more on this boat ride), Buzz Lightyear Astro Blaster (fight enemy using your laser guns), and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (a ride through Pooh's forest). The Mad Hatter Tea Cups and Cinderella Carousel are also among the must take rides. Check for the timings of the two song, music, dance and acrobatic shows - The Golden Mickeys and Festival of The Lion King and also, of the humourous Stitch Encounter show.
From carpet to walls and food to shampoo bottles, everything at the two Disney Hotels — Disney Hollywood Hotel and Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel — is a dedication to Mickey Mouse. You may enjoy an American Buffet or Indian delicacies at Chef Mickeys restaurant or meet Mickey himself at the Enchanted Garden restaurant as chef Kumar serves some Indian flavours. North Indian delicacies can even be enjoyed inside Disneyland Park at the Royal Banquet Hall, and the Tahitian Terrace restaurants.
