The luck factor
The role Feng Shui has played for the border line and unlucky cases is tremendous, writes Feng Shui master Mohan Deep.
This week has been very good for me. Touch wood. I have received more than the usual quota of letters acknowledging how my Feng Shui advice or paintings helped my clients. The e-mail has come from as far off as Queens at US and as close to home as Kalina, Santacruz. Will write about them the next week.

In Google, one of the best known search engines, there are two ways to search: 'Google search' or 'I’m feeling lucky'. Most people choose the conservative 'search' which gets them thousands of results and then go through several websites to get what they are looking for, but some like me click 'I’m feeling lucky' and nine times out of ten I get the information I’m looking for. I’m lucky. Everyone who has the habit of clicking 'I’m feeling lucky' comes in this category.
Richard Wiseman, the author of The Luck Factor mentions a magic trick he used to make his talk about luck more interesting. He placed a 10 in one of the 20 envelopes. He shuffled the envelopes and asked the women to choose the envelope that contained the money. She picked up an envelope and even before checking it burnt the remaining envelope as he knew which envelope contained the note. The audience cheered but the lady didn’t look at all surprised. She calmly said that this sort thing happened to her all the time. She was always in the right place at the right time and had experienced a great deal of good fortune in both her professional and personal life.
The other day I read about some guy abroad who won the first prize of several million dollars in a major lotto twice in less than a month!
And then there are people who are born unlucky. Whatever they touch turns to ash. And then there are border line cases.
While Feng Shui has shown magical results in case of the lucky people, the role it has played for the border line cases and the unlucky ones is tremendous. I have always compared the theories I have learned over the years with the experiences of my clients and have seen consistency in the theory and reality. The unhappy in love and marriage, the failures, the strugglers, the people who were always in debts and the likes have ALWAYS lived in the houses where the main door was in their unlucky direction. Those with bad marriages always had some problem with their Marriage & Relationship corners and those who stayed put in low paid jobs for lives didn’t have much to show in their Career corners.
Even when they shifted from one house to another, or for that matter, one city to another the Feng Shui flaws continued to remain. Chinese call this Heaven Luck and employ Feng Shui to correct the balance in your favour by enhancing the Earth Luck. Lucky people follow their instinct; accept the bulava of Feng Shui and reap the harvest.
The luck factor, besides employing Feng Shui, helps you in knocking the right doors, bumping into the right people, even the death or removal from the scene of the rivals.
It was Indira Gandhi’s luck that the then Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri died in Tashkent. He had already made up his mind to sack her for she was becoming a threat to him as she repeatedly by-passed him.
It was Sonia Gandhi’s destiny that she bumped into Rajiv Gandhi. If Sonia Maino, one of the three daughters of an Italian building contractor, had not gone to study English at a little known English school in Cambridge (Note: She never went to the Cambridge University as is popularly believed!) and had not met Rajiv Gandhi, the political scene would have been much different without her, Rahul and Priyanka. Even Manmohan Singh may not have been the Prime Minister and Congress might not have returned to power!
One little incident often plays a major role in shaping the destiny of hundreds of people. Take for instance, Raj Kapoor’s decision to make Bobby after losing everything including his shirt in Satyam Shivam Sundaram and choosing Dimple to play the lead.
Had there been no Bobby, there would have been no Dimple Kapadia. She might have been another socialite in the jungle of Mumbai where the man eats man. Rajesh Khanna might not have heard of her and there would have been no marriage (and divorce) between the two; Twinkle and Rinke wouldn’t have existed.
More interestingly in Outlook someone asked what if The Seven Samurai had not been made would there have been Sholay? But my point is what if Ramesh Sippy had not made Sholay? There may not have been Gabbar Singh. Amjad Khan, Jayant’s son, might have been forgotten by now. In fact, there is another anecdote involved. Danny was the first choice but he declined it as he had some other commitment (it was either Dharmatma or Khotey Sikkey) and in stepped Amjad Khan. The guy who sold tickets in black and purchased a flat from his earning may have still been living as a paying guest.
