Time moves on and with it the interests, concerns and aspirations of Gen Next. Staying current on the pulse of this dynamic generation takes some doing, which is why we commissioned the HT Horizons – C fore Survey, to get a fix on what grabs the student of today as far as career options go.

Our exclusive survey revealed that the Me-too generation would prefer to choose the money, glamour, name, fame, power and prestige route to the traditional slog, slave, grind and plod-your-way-to-the-top one. It stated that Gen Next is smart, savvy and aware of where they were headed: an overwhelming number want to be engineers!

Not for them the hurly-burly of Indian politics (1%), the suspense of finishing a course in animation and not landing the right kind of job (2%), or an uncertain future in the field of bio-technology (6%). They’d rather settle for the more solid management degree or the power that came with a job in the media. As far as exams went, an overwhelming 68% were in favour of common entrance tests at the state or national level for admission to various courses. No hopping from one exam to another, they said. The grading system got a thumbs up sign (56%).
