He made his debut at the age of 17 against India at the 1996 World Cup and ever since has been a key performer for his side.

Odoyo's highest score came against South Africa in 1999 when he made 53, which was followed with a 51 in the next match against India.

He is an useful paceman, taking wickets on a regular basis including three for 25 against Pakistan back in 1996. His total haul is 57 in 61 matches which prompted him to be labelled as 'black Botham'. In 1997-98 he shared in a then-world record ODI stand for the seventh-wicket of 119 with the Suji.

Injury had forced him out of Kenya’s trip to the West Indies for the 2003-04 Carib Beer Cup first-class competition, but he was fit again for selection for the 2004 Champions Trophy.
