RESENTMENT HAS started brewing over the sensational incident of alleged gang rape with two tribal teenaged girl labourers in Sonebhadra district, recently.

Superintendant of Police (Sonebhadra) Raghuwir Lal, on Sunday, suspended three police personnel including, Obra station officer, for not lodging a complaint when the victims insisted.

An FIR has been lodged with the police in this connection and victims underwent a medical examination on Monday. The report of which is awaited. Police are continuing raids to arrest the alleged rapists.

According to sources, a group of tribal labourers engaged in stone mining lived in rented huts at Bhaluwa Tola under Obra police station in Sonebhadra.

A gang of three miscreants broke into the hut of the two teenaged labourers on the night of December 29 when they were asleep. When, miscreants tried to touch them, the girls woke up and started shouting but no one turned up and they were raped.

Before the grusome incident, the miscreants had locked the nearby huts from outside so that nobody could come out.

The victims lodged a complaint with the police through an application with their thumb impression endorsed for a legal action against the rapists but the police did not lodge an FIR at that time. They were not even sent for a medical examination to find out the truth.

Later, resentment started brewing among the tribal women of the area and somehow, SP (Sonebhadra) was approached by the parents and well-wishers of the victims. After getting information, the SP looked into the matter and suspended the Station Officer of Obra police station, a sub-inspector and a head constable on the charge of laxity on duty.
