Three persons of a family, including two women were allegedly killed by unidentified robbers at Devri town about 120 km from Raisen, police said on Tuesday.
The robbers entered into the house of one Chandrashekhar Dubey on Monday night after breaking the roof and killed his parents Brajbhushan Dubey (65) and Gayatri Devi (60) besides wife Pushp Lata (32) by slitting their throats with sharp-edged weapons when they were asleep, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Awadesh Goswami said.
The incident came to light on Tuesday morning when Chandrashekhar returned to his house after ploughing his fields throughout the night, Goswami said.
After killing the trio, the robbers allegedly took away Rs 70,000 cash besides gold and silver ornaments from a safe, he said.
A case has been registered against unknown assailants under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Goswami said.
