The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of student unions had planned a march to the assembly ('Chalo Assembly'), but later it christened the programme as "peace rally".
The state legislature is currently in session.
The state capital has turned into a fortress with the deployment of over 12,500 armed policemen and paramilitary forces including RAF, CISF, CRPF personnel, police said.
Police have imposed restrictions on vehicular traffic at 22 important places in the city. Also, five flyovers-- Khairtabad, Narayanguda, Basheerbagh, Telugu Talli and Masab Tank would be closed for traffic from tonight to tomorrow evening, ACP (Traffic) Hanumantha Rao said.
Pedestrians will also not be allowed on the elevated bridges, he said.
