Toshiba Corp has introduced a new computer chip with the world's fastest operating speed and highest density.

Toshiba Corp has introduced a new computer chip with the world's fastest operating speed and highest density, the Japanese electronics giant announced on Tuesday.

The Ferroelectric Random Access Memory, or FeRAM, pushes the storage to the 64-megabit capacity and the read and write speed to the fastest speed of any FeRAM at 200 megabytes a second, the company said in a statement.

The new advanced performance chip was developed from adoption of a burst mode for high-speed data transfers.

FeRAM combines the fast operating features of DRAM and SRAM with flash memory's ability to retain data even when powered off.

Toshiba will expand its research and development in FeRAM to use it in areas such as high-performance mobile digital equipment and computers.
