THE TOURISM industry, which is slowly gaining a firm footing in India, has decided to open more jobs. And this time it is exclusively meant for women.
'Priyadarshini', as the title has been given to the project, is entirely the venture of Tourism Department, Government of India. According to it, those women interested in any job which is directly or indirectly related to tourism will be given a chance to enter the field of their choice whereby they will be trained and provided with sufficient loans to carry on with their career.

According to RK Yadav, regional tourist officer, Allahabad Division, the project includes step-by-step proceedings which will be carried out through inviting the proposals of the interested candidates, the selection of the eligible ones and then finally training them and helping them acquire the loans, if necessary.

"Women could come up with the field of their interest such as opening a restaurant, start the services of special taxi meant for tourists, organising the information kiosk, opening up shops displaying souvenirs, handicrafts, to work as guides and so on," he informed.

"It will be our endeavour to help women as much as possible through the project as it will be a step towards creating a whole new sector of jobs for women in the tourism industry. Both the candidates from urban and rural areas will be given preference," said Yadav.

From every division, altogether 20 to 25 women candidates will be selected who will be trained.

The parameters regarding their selection are, however, still in the first phase of discussion. Syllabus specifically meant for the selected candidates will be finalised and what more, they will also be aided with the marketing and publicity to promote their services.

"While promoting the brand image of the sector 'Incredible India', it will be the effort of the Tourism Department to make tourism a thriving venture and since this is an entirely new concept, we are hopeful that it will be successful," said the regional tourist officer.
