Trader shot, Aligarh burns again

COMMUNAL VIOLENCE flared up again in Aligarh with a traders? leader being shot dead leading to widespread violence in five police circles of the district on Sunday. Curfew has been imposed in all the five affected localities. Several persons have reportedly been injured, two of them critically.

COMMUNAL VIOLENCE flared up again in Aligarh with a traders’ leader being shot dead leading to widespread violence in five police circles of the district on Sunday. Curfew has been imposed in all the five affected localities. Several persons have reportedly been injured, two of them critically.

In wake of the Aligarh incident, the state government had sounded a state wide alert and all IG zones had been instructed to step up policing and keep a close watch on the situation in the areas under their control, principal secretary, Home said.

According to reports from Aligarh, OP Lala, a traders’ leader, was returning home after closing his godown in Kanwariganj police circle when some unidentified gunmen shot him from close range and escaped.

The trader was rushed to Medical College where he died. As soon as reports of the trader being attacked spread, widespread violence followed. In some places like the area near the bus stand, several people were attacked. Arson and violence was also witnessed in Shashanigate, Panna Devi, Gandhi Park, Delhi Gate and Kotwali police areas of the city.

Reports from Aligarh said since last week, two chemists Raju Samosewala and R Gupta, too, were similarly shot at and injured. Both succumbed to their injuries.
