The journey time of trains is being reduced and the Railway Time Table is being rewritten across the 16 zones, Rajya Sabha was informed on Friday.
Minister of State for Railways Naranbhai J Rathwa said in a written reply that it has been decided to convert more than 200 mail/express trains to super-fast mail/express category by increasing their speeds.
The journey time of a majority of Shatabdis and Rajdhanis will reduce and that of certain mail/express trains is likely to decrease by upto four hours, he said.
The minister also informed the House that speed restrictions are being reviewed regularly at the officers level in division as well as zonal Headquarters.
To the extent possible, track and bridge renewals/ rehabilitation works are planned in such a way that a 50-km stretch of track remains free of restrictions in a section, he said.
