-Punjab' Lala Lajpat Rai on his 79th martyrdom day on Friday.

A statue of his, brought from Lahore after the partition and installed at Scandal Point, was garlanded by representatives of various political parties, cultural and religious organisations.

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh also laid wreaths at the Point, renamed Lala Lajpat Rai Chowk, in memory of the freedom fighter who died on this day in 1928 after sustaining injuries in police action during a demonstration against British rule.
