Hossain, who was initially admitted to Kanapukur primary health centre with injuries from sticks and rods, was later shifted to Lalbag sub-divisional hospital. "A quick response team has been sent to the spot. We have lodged an FIR against unknown assailants and are probing into the incident," said Mrinal Majumdar, additional SP, Lalbag.
According to Trinamool leaders, Hossain was attacked around 9 pm on Friday when he was returning after meeting his agent of booth no 33 at Milandihi village. He sustained serious injuries. "I have no knowledge of any such incident. Our men can't be involved with any such incident, as this is not our culture," said Nripen Choudhury, CPI(M) Murshidabad district secretary.
