The police, on the other hand, said that the mishap occurred when the victim's legs came under the wheels after he jumped off to avoid arrest during a ticket checking operation.

However, eyewitnesses said that the passenger was allegedly pushed out of the train, which had slowed down near the railway station, by the TTE after the man failed to produce a ticket.

The victim, Dallu Paswan of Begumpur, Patna, was rushed to Nalanda Medical College and Hospital, official sources said.

The identity of the TTE has not yet been ascertained as the train had left for its onward journey.

Angry locals staged a procession at the Patna Saheb Railway Station demanding compensation for the victim.
