Television Eighteen India Ltd (TV18 India), one of India's leading TV software producers, said Monday the company's new general news channel will be launched before the end of the year.

TV18, which manages the business news channel CNBC TV18, has decided to launch two general news channels, one each in English and Hindi, said a company statement issued to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

"This project has already made significant progress and the company expects its first channel to launch before the end of the year. The group believes that it is now uniquely positioned to benefit from this opportunity."

The company said it would advance the conversion of warrants issued on rights basis to fund its expansion plans in the news space.

TV18 said it was ready to embark upon its next phase of growth and harness opportunities in the general news space to emerge as India's premier platform for television news.
