Divisional commissioner Shailendra Kumar said the government has ordered inquiry into the incident.
The inquiry will be carried out by district magistrate Farooq Ahmad Shah. "The inquiry officer shall submit a report along with recommendation within 15 days," said an official communique.
Bashir Ahmad Bhat (25) received bullets in the abdomen on April 30 during a clash between security forces and protesters, who were attacking paramilitary troops accompanying the poll staff after polling ended.
According to the police, paramilitary troops fired after there was an attempt to snatch weapons. However, CRPF spokesman refuted firing at protesters.
Meanwhile, CRPF has also started a court of inquiry. "This inquiry does not mean that CRPF personnel are responsible for the killing. We order a court of inquiry even if a weapon from any of personnel gets damaged or a round is misplaced,” CRPF spokesman Kishore Prasad was quoted as saying by a local agency.
