TWO RAILWAY gangmen who were working at the track near Sanchi were run over by a passing train on Tuesday evening while the condition of the third employee who got injured in the process remains critical.

It is not clear yet how the train came on the very track where the labourers were working and whether the driver had blown
the whistle or not.

According to information, the 2174 Kanpur-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Udyog Nagri Express was passing through the Sanchi-Salamatpur section, around 40 km from the State capital, where the gangmen were at work. Chunnilal, 40, and Bhawani, 42, were crushed under the train while another gangman Ramsevak Yadav was critically injured.

While Chunnilal and Bhawani were killed on the track itself, the condition of Ramsevak Yadav remains critical. He was brought to Bhopal by Sampark Kranti Express and admitted to the Railway hospital. In all, half-a-dozen gangmen were at work at the track when the mishap occurred.

DRM Devi Prasad Pandey said that the inquiry would be conducted into the mishap and only then the circumstances surrounding the incident could be ascertained.

Pandey said that the officials of the welfare department had visited the spot and ex-gratia payment was given to the kin of the deceased persons.

Railway officials say that the kin of the deceased could be given job on compassionate grounds.
