Two persons have been arrested in Mumbai by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for allegedly possessing large quantity of detonators and gelatin sticks used in quarrying activities, police said on Sunday.

Laxman Kamble (55) and Subhash Gaikwad (36) were arrested from Mulund last evening with 438 detonators and five gelatin sticks, a senior ATS official said.

"They claimed to have stolen the detonators and gelatin sticks from quarries in Thane district for selling them to quarry owners," the officer said, maintaining that the explosives were not meant for any sabotage activities.

The duo has been booked under the Explosives Act and would be produced in a local on Sunday, the officer added.
