Two killed in Manipur encounters

Two persons were killed in encounters at separate pockets of Lamphal police station in Manipur's Imphal West district on Monday evening.

Two persons were killed by combined security forces in encounters at separate pockets of Lamphal police station in Manipur's Imphal West district on Monday evening, official sources said on Tuesday.

Some armed persons were found loitering at Ghari locality where a combined team of Imphal West police and Maratha light infantry personnel were patrolling.

After the armed men fired at the forces, the securitymen retaliated the fire killing one person.

Later, another encounter took place at Kwakeithel Thounaoujam Leikai where a youth was shot dead by combined forces, the sources said.

Two 9 mm pistol with some live rounds were found from the persons of the two.
