Two killed in police firing in Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh

Two people were killed when Special Armed Force (SAF) jawans opened fire in Gulsi village of Chhindwara district on Monday evening. The SAF personnel fired after the irate villagers allegedly attacked them.

Those killed in the firing were identified as Sangeeta, 24, and Shyam Rao, 54. The SAF personnel fired after the irate villagers allegedly attacked them.

SP, Chhindwara, Mithelesh Shukla told HT that a team of forest staff accompanied by SAF jawans had gone to Gulsi village at about 6pm to arrest a man accused in a forest crime.

The villagers had a clash with the forest staff. Subsequently, SAF jawans were asked by the forest staff to open fire in self defence which resulted in the killing of two people on the spot.

Collector and SP Chhindwara rushed to the spot and were camping there till late Monday night. After the incident, an inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the firing.
