A team led by police sub-inspector Sarang Navalkar arrested two youth and seized two vehicles as well as 11 domestic LPG cylinders from a house in Vidarbha Housing Society on Wednesday night, on charges of illegal refilling.

"We raided the house of the mastermind Gaurav Rajkumar Jaiswal (25) in the Vidarbha Housing Society and arrested him along with his accomplice Irfan Khan Rehim Khan (24), a resident of Al-Kabir Nagar, as they were found refilling LPG cylinders," he said. Two vehicles bearing registration numbers MH 29/ R-7523 and MTV 4322, besides 11 LPG cylinders were seized.

A criminal offence was registered against them at the Wadgaon Road police station under Sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act. The seized cylinders, vehicles and refilling equipment are estimated to be worth Rs 3.70 lakh.

It may be recalled that a fortnight ago, in a similar raid on a residence on Jamb Road, a special squad arrested two youth as well as seized a vehicle, LPG cylinders and refilling equipment.

In yet another case, two people were arrested and over a dozen LPG cylinders as well as an auto-rickshaw were seized by a special squad a couple of months ago, in the weekly market area.

All three cases occurred under the Wadgaon police station, whose in-charge, police inspector Sarjerao Gaikwad did nothing other than registering offences detected by special squads.
