Two naxals killed

Atleast two naxals, including a woman of PWG (CPI-ML), were gunned down in an encounter with a special police party in the thick forest near Bandla Mottu village in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh early this morning, police said.

In view of ongoing polling for Lok Sabha and assembly in the state, a special police party was combing the dense forest area near Bandlamottu village when a group of ten naxals opened fire at the police party, according to Anjani Kumar, DIG of police Guntur range.

Police retaliated by firing several rounds.

Later police recovered two bodies from the site including that of a woman and also seized a revolver, a pistol, several claymore mines, gelatin sticks and four first-aid kitbags, drugs, naxal literature and letter heads of naxal Nallamala forest division, the DIG added.

He said the ultras had made two attacks in the area on well fortified Bandlamottu police station on April 17, and killing of two constables by triggering a claymore mine on April 10.

Significantly Chief Minister N.Chaidrababau Naidu, who miraculously escaped a naxal bid on his life at Allpiri in temple town of Tirupathi on October one, 2003, was due to visit the naxal infested Guntur district today as part of poll campaign.
