The militants were killed at Behrampora in Pattan area, where Commanding officer of the 29 Rashtriya Rifles, Col GS Sarna, was killed and two jawans were injured in a gunbattle on Saturday, he said, adding firing between militants and security forces was still going on.

In another incident, three police personnel were injured in an exchange of fire between the militants and the security forces at Dangerpora in Sopore area of the district this morning, he said.

Exchange of fire came to halt with sunset on Saturday but security forces maintained a tight vigil at Behrampora and Dangerpora to prevent the militants from escaping during the night, he said, adding the offensive was launched this morning.

He said the cordon around the holed up militants at both the places has been strengthened.
