The United Bank of India, one of the country's leading nationalised banks, will soon start its operations in Sikkim.

The bank has decided to open its first branch in the hill state at Namchi in the south district, North Bengal regional manager of the bank SC Debnath said in a statement on Monday.
Retail credit facilities and timely and hassle-free credit to the agricultural sector in the region will be one of the thrust areas of the bank.
He said UBI will soon provide credit facility to a floriculture project in Sikkim and was giving final touches to its plan for opening a branch of the bank in Gangtok as well.
