A self-styled `sergeant' of Ulfa's 27th battalion was on Tuesday killed in an encounter with security forces in central Assam's Nagaon district.
The extremist, Prasant Gogoi, was involved in an exchange of fire with the security forces at Amsoi around 2 am before being gunned down, official sources said.
A 9-mm pistol with live cartridges was recovered from the slain ultra, the sources added.
