Bharti was stopped at Satheri village on Canal Road, about 25 km from Muzaffarnagar, where she started a dharna along with another party leader Anita Singh.

Additional district magistrate Indermani Tripathi said, Uma Bharti was prevented from reaching Muzaffarnagar as prohibitory orders were in force in the district and also as a preventive measure in view of the situation in the region.

Bharti said, she wanted to visit family members of the journalist killed in the clashes and also meet those affected in the violence.
