Lodhi had met party spokesman Kapil Sibal in New Delhi on Saturday and expressed a desire to join the party. Lodhi is also understood to have asked for the Rajgarh parliamentary seat.
"I met Kapil Sibal yesterday and discussed various issues with him. I am now going to Rajgarh," Lodhi said on Sunday.
Lodhi said he was not angry but disappointed with the BJP. "Former chief minister Digvijay Singh had promised me a ticket from an Assembly seat. However, Uma assured me that she will give me a ticket in the same polls…nothing happened," he said adding, "I have been betrayed."
For the Congress this was an instance of once bitten twice shy.
