Police seized unaccounted cash worth 25 lakh at Dilaram Bazaar on Monday. The cash allegedly belonged to a BJP candidate contesting from Mussoorie assembly seat. The police team stopped two Delhi registered cars on the basis of prior information and seized the cash. Later, the Income Tax department flying squad was called and it is investigating the matter. According to the police sources, the money was brought here for bribing the voters.
Previously also police had seized unaccounted money worth lakhs kept in cars, allegedly brought in for illegal use during the elections from different places and FIR was also lodged in a few cases. As Election Commission observers keep a close vigil on candidates during daytime, some of the candidates are taking time out in late night hours to lure voters with money and gifts. Incidents of distributing free liquor coupons to the voters by the supporters of certain candidates have also been reported from Raipur assembly seat.
