Understanding must between Bench and Bar

JUSTICE POONAM Srivastava, a judge of the Allahabad High Court has said understanding between the Bench and the Bar was a must for smooth running of the entire legal system.

She was addressing a felicitation function at the Central Bar Association on the Collectorate premises here in Varanasi on Wednesday.

Stating that hard work was key to success, Srivastava, also Administrative Judge of Varanasi, said a lawyer should not rely over book knowledge alone but should have knowledge of other fields also. She said she would make all possible efforts to address the problem of lawyers in Varanasi.

District Judge Dr Chandra Dev Rai assured the lawyers their problems would be addressed with cooperation of each other. He also assured the gathering a quick and transparent judicial system would be in place.

Registrar General, Swatantra Singh requested Srivastava to ensure smooth functioning of vacant court by July-end in Varanasi this year.

Several senior lawyers and office-bearers of the Bar Association told Srivastava about the existing problems in the local court. Central Bar Association president Shyam Narayan Singh and Banaras Bar Association president Radhey Shyam also addressed the felicitation function. Ashok Kumar Singh conducted the programme.

Earlier, Srivastava also inaugurated a 12-room residential building of judicial officers at district judge residential compound on Wednesday morning.
