Three unidentified persons, chased by local residents, fired two rounds in the air on Wednesday morning in Mumbai, police said.

The trio were spotted by residents of Kannamwar Nagar in suburban Vikhorli at around 0645 hrs and when chased they fired the bullets before fleeing in an autorickshaw, they said.

A magazine and two empty cartridges were recovered from the spot and a manhunt has been launched for them, the police said.

It was, however, not immediately known if they had committed any robbery in the area, they added.
