IN LIFE, he was dear to all. And in death, all have chosen to pay tribute to him — Hindus according to their custom and Muslims in line with theirs..
This is the story of Aley Miyan, an epitome of Hindu-Muslim unity for hundreds of residents of Qazipur-Bhapatpur village in Handia tehsil of the district.
His humility and his actions, cutting across barriers of caste and creed, so endeared him to people of his village that a section of residents performed his ‘terhi’ on Saturday.
Another section has decided to observe ‘chehellum’ in his memory on Sunday.
Those performing the two rituals from different religious communities say they have never seen, or heard anything like this before.
Besides being a symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity, his heart brimmed with compassion for all.
A teacher by profession, Aley Miyan later became the pradhan of his village.
He utilised the funds wholly for development of his village. Everybody knew that not a single rupee would be misused. Having no children, Aley Miyan considered everybody his own child.
Such was the faith of the people in him and his decisions that people from other villages also made a beeline for his house to get their problems settled amicably.
A majlis for women wouldbe held at 11 am on Sunday, said former pradhan Shahid Abbas.
