With the Congress leadership expressing serious resolve to strengthen the party unit in Uttar Pradesh during the plenary session at Hyderabad recently, the UPCC has planned to take out a series of yatras during February-March.
This is an attempt to win back its lost ground as also to apprise people of the "wrong policies" being pursued by the Samajwadi Party government.
To begin with, two yatras are being taken out from Varanasi touching various districts in the eastern belt to mobilise youth and rural masses and apprise them of party's policies and programmes and "misgovernance of the SP", organisation secretary, Satyadev Tripathi said in Lucknow.
These yatras -- named Rozgar Sandesh and Purvanchal Jan Jagran Yatra would be led by Arvind Singh and Shailendra Singh, two youth leaders of Purvanchal who had recently joined the Congress, Tripathi said.
Arvind Singh is the younger brother of SP General Secretary, Amar singh.
Besides, a series of Jan Jagran Yatras would be taken out throughout February touching all divisions, districts and towns, he said adding that senior leaders including Union ministers will also be joining these yatras which were aimed at weaning back the party's lost vote bank.
"One yatra each would cover two to three divisions with active participation of local leaders assisted by senior leaders who would be joining it at different places," he said.
The in-charge of party affairs, Ashok Gehlot would be finalising the programme and destination of these rallies later, Tripathi said adding that the state unit would request Congress President Sonia Gandhi to participate in some of these rallies.
