The Upendra Commission, inquiring into the circumstances that led to the death of 30-year-old Manorama devi in Manipur, on Tuesday examined S Gunindro Singh, officer-in-charge of Irilbung police station in Manipur's Imphal East district.

Commission sources said Singh appeared thrice before the commission, headed by retired Judge C Upendra, and gave his statement on the evidences found by the police at the time of recovery of Manorama's body.

Manorama, who was arrested on July 10 by 17th Assam Rifles personnel from Bamon Kampu area in Imphal East District, was found dead the next day. Her bullet-riddled body was recovered from Ngariyang area near her house.

Assam Rifles counsel, who cross-examined Gunindro Singh, said some of the statements of Singh was contradictory to the statement he had made before the Army Court of Inquiry.
