It may be recalled that earlier, Dean (Science) Prof Hari Prakash, Head of AU Mathematics Department Prof Vindyachal Rai and Prof PK Khare of AU Botany Department were appointed by the V-C to the Empowered Committee.

Objecting to the selection of teachers appointed to the committee, the student leaders had launched an agitation and demanded that the committee be headed by Dean (Arts) Prof KG Srivasatava and have non-science faculty teachers as its members for a fair and impartial inquiry. They had also demanded that Prof PK Khare be excluded from the committee as he was already a member of the purchase committee.

The V-C on Tuesday appointed Head of AU Economics Department Prof PN Mehrotra and Head of AU Botany Department Prof DR Mishra as new members of the committee.

Prof PK Khare, who was out of the city at the time of the announcement of formation of the ‘Empowered Committee’, met the V-C on his return and expressed his reluctance to be part of the fact-finding team due to objections raised from some quarters. The V-C then appointed Prof BP Singh of the Law Faculty as the new member of the ‘Empowered Committee’.

The committee is to submit its report within the next two weeks to the V-C who is then expected to place it before the AU Executive Council.
