The ex-servicemen of the state had been pressing for the reduction of VAT since long. He said the state government was developing the state on equal and balanced basis and it was wrong to say that the development was haywire in the state.

Earlier, Singh dedicated to the people a newly constructed building of the mini-secretariat at Bhoranj costing Rs 1 crore and said in fact there was no development in the state during the previous regime of the BJP.

He told people not to fall prey to the evil designs of the BJP and instead join hands with the Congress for their well-being and welfare.

Singh hit out at former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal for ignoring the interests of the people of the state in general and Hamirpur district in particular adding that Dhumal was in the habit of helping the outside people at the cost of Himachalis. He said the BJP in fact did nothing for the people and minted money for them.

He claimed that there was mass development in the district since it came into being on September 1, 1972. The credit for this goes to late Dr YS Parmar, the first chief minister of the state.

Earlier, the chief minister laid the foundation stone of a police post at Touni Devi and thanked people for keeping faith in the Congress.

Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, chief parliamentary secretary and MLA of Badsar area, assured the chief minister that all party workers were with the chief minister in his drive to end corruption from society.
