Opposing any proposal to extend reservation to Dalit Christians, the VHP on Friday said the converts were already enjoying a number of benefits.

VHP further added that the move would affect the quota given to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

"Under Article 29 and 30, the Dalit Christians get special benefits as minorities. They have educational institutions and other assets," senior VHP leader Acharya Giriraj Kishore told reporters in New Delhi.

"Reservation is given to SCs and STs. If the converts also get reservation, the quota given to SC/STs will be affected," said Giriraj Kishore.

Kishore contended the demand by Dalit Christians also contradicts their claim of equality in the community.
