Olmert, who was wearing a blue and white kippa skullcap in the colours of the Israeli flag, slipped a prayer into the cracks of the wall in the heart of Jerusalem's Old City.

The visit to the Western Wall is a traditional journey for successful leaders after an election. Although the results have yet to be announced, Kadima had a clear lead over all its rivals according to exit polls after Tuesday's election.
