Roger Federer has proved once again that he is not a spent force
This refers to the editorial A timeless champion (The Pundit, July 10). The fact that Roger Federer won his seventh Wimbledon title despite committing many unforced errors speaks volumes about his class. Federer proved that he is not a spent force when he defeated world no 1 tennis player Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. We now hope that he wins a gold medal in the singles contest at the upcoming London Olympics — an accomplishment missing from his glorious career.

The truth about generic drugs
This refers to Sagarika Ghose' article Back to the Basics (Bloody Mary, July 11). Ghose erroneously states that Aamir Khan was invited to Parliament to give inputs on generic drugs. The Parliamentary Committee on Commerce had invited Khan to present his and his team's views on foreign direct investment (FDI) in the pharmaceutical sector. The 'generic drugs', in the context of FDI, are the off-patent medicines that can be produced by non-innovators all over the world. In India, they are defined differently and refer to medicines sold under their chemical/salt names without any brand/trade names.

Reconsider the proposal
This refers to Pushpa Sundar's article Don't pass the buck (July 10). Social development is the responsibility of the government and it cannot pass on its duties to the private sector. The proposal made by the Parliament Standing Committee on finance to make corporate social responsibility mandatory for every private firm should be revised at the earliest.
